What You’ll Need
- A4 white paper
- A4 coloured paper (or white paper to decorate)
- Pencil, Ruler, Scissors
- Sleeping animal printable
(or a magazine picture or photo of your own pet) - Coloured cardstock (optional backing)
Step 1 – Make Your Blanket
- Cut an A4 sheet of paper in half to create an A5 piece.
- Using a ruler, draw vertical lines every 1.5 cm, stopping about 2 cm from the top so the strips stay attached.
- Now decorate your blanket with colourful patterns, stripes, dots or pictures using markers and crayons.

Step 2 – Cut the Blanket
Carefully cut along each pencil line, stopping at the top margin so your blanket stays together in one piece.
Step 3 – Make Your Weaving Strips
Using another sheet of coloured paper, cut lots of 1.5 cm wide strips.
If you’re using white paper, decorate it first before cutting your strips.

Step 4 – Weave Your Blanket
Starting at one end, weave each strip over, under, over, under through the blanket.
Alternate the pattern for each new strip to create a colourful woven design.

Step 5 – Secure the Blanket
Once you’ve finished weaving, turn your blanket over and use small pieces of sticky tape to secure the ends so the strips don’t slide out.
Step 6 – Add Your Sleeping Animal
Print the sleeping animal template, carefully cut it out and glue it onto the front of your woven blanket. No printer? Cut a sleeping animal from a magazine or print a photo of your own sleepy pet instead.

Step 7 – Display Your Artwork
Glue your finished artwork onto a piece of coloured cardstock to create a bright border, then display it somewhere special!
